I have always preferred bracelets over bangles but putting them on causes high drama… if I do not pay attention to the clasping system, I spend anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes just trying to get it on and invariably I need help. I am right handed and not very deft with my left and I am sure it is the same for lefties. So, having a complicated screw on or hook-eye or spring hook and eye type of clasping systems to secure the bracelet on your hand is ridiculous. Why can’t they make something simple yet elegant? That way I would start to buy bracelets again as would many other like me!

For similar reason, women can’t put on some of the fancy dresses themselves, for example, the dresses for ballroom competition. This would chalenge the design of the dressing rooms for events like this. Instead of dressing rooms for men and women, more small size dressing rooms might be better. Since under situation like that, when everyone is under pressure, your dance partner might be the only one who can help you put on your dress.

I stopped wearing clasp bracelets because I do not have enough time to put it on in the morning. In addition, the one I has pulls the hair out of my arm if I do not wear a long sleeved shirt. It is sad because my grandma got it for me and I can not wear it.

Even if people have the dexterity to use their non-dominant hand to clasp a bracelet or the coordination to clasp a necklace behind their heads, many clasps are too small to handle. When I was younger, I often had to help my mom and sisters put their necklaces and bracelets on because my fingers were much smaller. I do remember a few bracelets where the clasp was a part of the design, allowing us to put them on quickly and easily–these kinds of clasps should be used more often!

Actually, I used to work in a jewelry store for about 4 years. I always loved showing people tricks about how to get bracelets on and off. Half the battle is simply knowing how to do it–the other half is the dexterity to be able to do so. I know from experience, though, that it is just simply too difficult sometimes. Some people just need different styles of claps. Here’s a link to some other clasp styles. There are definitely more than this, though! Jewelry is always about innovation.
