When at public events such as football or basketball games I have had trouble seeing the event that is taking place because of my height. Although I am not that short, at least I like to think I’m not, if I am seated behind someone who is extremely tall, there have been times were I missed segments of the event because someone’s head was in the way. This happens less at sporting events because of the stadium seating, but still has occurred. While I was at a football game at Memorial Stadium, I was sitting behind a guy who must have been 6′ 7″ or taller, and I had trouble at times seeing entire plays. Even worse is when everyone starts to stand and get on top of their seats, there are glimpses of the game that were blocked by their head. Although these seats are designed so views aren’t blocked, when there is a height difference of nearly a foot or more, there are going to be viewing problems. Again, this has only happened to me a handful of times because 6′ 7″ people aren’t very common, but a 5′ 4″ person would have trouble seeing over someone who is 6′ 2″, which is a more common height. This problem is worse at concerts or other events when there is a flat viewing surface and anyone a few inches taller is in front of me.

I have been to many concerts and sporting events and have faced this issue many times. Even though I am 6′-0″ tall, I have still encountered situations where I cannot see over or around the person in front of me. I have mostly experienced this at concerts in the general admission/ floor area, where there is usually a fairly flat floor. This is particularly aggravating considering these tickets tend to cost more than the individual seats behind. I have also experienced this in several classroom settings, particularly those that have no elevation change.
